Euro Fruits is conscious about its responsibilities and duties in respect of sound environment management practices in the form of sustainable farm and post-farm practices.
Due to limited literacy and lack of global exposure amongst Indian farmers and farm workers, the key task identified by the Euro Fruits management is awareness building and information dissemination on sound environment management practices amongst the stakeholders.
In this respect Euro Fruits conducted global search of best environment related practices, particularly in the context of table grape vineyards.
In September 2004, Euro Fruits obtained the membership of Linking Environment and Farming (LEAF) the UK based institution committed to environmentally and socially acceptable viable agriculture. Euro Fruits is the first Indian company to seek membership of LEAF UK.
Euro Fruits management studied the LEAF Marque standards and Integrated Farm Management handbook. Based on these documents, information note in local language has been prepared and circulated amongst all Euro Fruits Farmer Group members.
We have started interaction with Environment Protection Training and Research Institute, funded by the Government of India and Swedish International Development Agency. We plan to conduct environmental impact assessment audits through EPTRI experts for some of our member vineyards during 2005.
We are also in touch with crop protection product manufacturers for getting active ingredient specific Environmental Information Sheets for distribution amongst our farmer members.
Euro Fruits has studied the Code for Environmental Best Practice for Viticulture published by the Department of Primary Industries, Government of Victoria, Australia. We are planning to conduct self-assessment audits on similar lines in the context of Indian vineyard management practices.
A comprehensive waste and pollution management and flora-fauna-wildlife conservation management protocols have been compiled by Euro Fruits is local language for compliance by our farmer group members
