Euro Fruits Traceability Protocol

Euro Fruits conducts the entire procurement and packing operation of table grapes in a highly controlled manner.

The procurement and harvesting is conducted only and exclusively from pre-registered farms

The Protocol ensures Plot-to-Box traceability for 100% of the quantity handled.

Every pre-registered farmer-supplier has been given a code number. The numbering system is based on the location and the serial number. Typical format of the code number would be N.03 or B.09

All Euro Fruits pre-registered farmer-suppliers have been provided with centrally administered farm application recording formats, which contain adequate reference to the batch-wise traceability of key inputs as well as personnel traceability for all farm operations.

Euro Fruits would keep full records of the individual plots of all produce suppliers with reference to location, address, plot size, number of rows, number of vines per row, total number of vines, fruit pruning date, sampling date, EurepGap internal audit/ inspection dates/ results etc. etc.

On the day of harvest, all harvested produce of a single plot is handled and processed separately with accent on plot identity preservation. At all points of time in working process of sorting, grading, trimming, packing, pre-cooling and storage, the farmer specific plot identity is preserved and demonstrated. Pre-allocated colour coded harvesting crate system has been effectively implemented in Season 2004 and the same would be continued for Season 2005 as well.

Every packed and pre-cooled box would bear a code number stating the farmer code and the respective plot number. The date of harvest will also be recorded on the box, in the form of number of days in the calendar year. Thus, typical format of code number on the box would be N 003/ 05 – N 003 as farmer code and 05 as plot number - with harvest date code at 046 for harvest on February 15 th.

Every Euro Fruits pallet will have only One single grower plot code. We plan to pack not more than Three growers' produce in one container.

Every pallet will have a self-explanatory label containing all traceability details. The Container Loading Plan for every container would state grower track codes and date codes for all individual pallets.

Euro Fruits is registered with EAN India with the EAN allocated prefix – 890600795. We plan to bar code all our trading units (cartons) and logistics units (pallets) for Season 2005 with application identifier information like farmer code, plot code and date of packing. All punnets would bear the sticker as per specific customer requirements.

Apart from the 100% commitment on full traceability of all individual cartons and pallets across the value chain to the specific grower's specific plot harvested on the specific date, Euro Fruits also endeavours to keep traceability of all packing materials as well as personnel traceability in the individual post harvest operations.

The Euro Fruits Traceability Systems have been designed on the basis of the inputs from EAN.UCC Fresh Produce Traceability Project Report, EAN Fresh Produce Traceability Guidelines and Efficient Consumer Response – Europe Blue Book titled “Using Traceability in the Supply Chain to meet Consumer Safety Expectations”.
